Launchpad Philly is a free tech training program available for all 11th and 12th graders city-wide. Their mission is to connect high schoolers to high paying careers in the tech industry. The program is 2.5 years, paid, and equips students with coding skills, work-ready soft skills, industry certifications, and up to 30 college credits. More info is attached.    Computer Graphics Film Show -- SIGGRAPH Video Review

It’s time again to kick off our season of meetings with the annual computer graphics film show, featuring the latest and greatest computer animations direct from the ACM SIGGRAPH conference held this summer. Our expert commentator, Prof. Adam Finkelstein, will provide more information about the computer graphics techniques used in these films.

Adam Finkelstein is a professor in the Princeton University Department of Computer Science.  He is one of the organizers of the art of science exhibition at Princeton.  Finkelstein earned his masters and doctoral degrees from the University of Washington. His awards include the NSF CAREER Award and an Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, and he is a Fellow of the ACM.

Princeton ACM / IEEE Computer Society meetings for the 2023-24 season will be "hybrid." You have a choice: attend the talk in-person, or view the meeting online from home.  To join the online, you must register in advance, and you will receive an email with instructions for how to connect to the talk.

All Princeton ACM / IEEE Computer Society meetings are open to the public.  Students and their parents are welcome.  There is no admission charge, and refreshments are served.

No pre-meeting dinner before the October meeting... we will resume pre-meeting dinners beginning with the November 16 meeting.
 

The Cognizant Innovation in Computer Science Education Awards recognize outstanding educators and individuals advocating for and expanding access to PK-12 computer science education across the United States.  

The PECO STEM Fellows Program is designed for Pennsylvania K-5 public, Archdiocesan, private, and home school teachers seeking to deepen their command of STEM content and teaching strategies. PEF's McKinney Center for STEM Education will offer hands-on learning and peer support to help Fellows produce unique, standards-based lesson plans.

CSinPA is asking for your support to understand how you incorporate cybersecurity topics into your curriculum and how you educate students on online safety, privacy, and the fundamentals of ethical hacking. By participating in this brief survey, you will contribute to our efforts in assessing the landscape of Cybersecurity Education in Pennsylvania. Thank you for your support.

The NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) High School Award honors 9^th-12^th grade women, genderqueer, and non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and future plans. Since 2007, more than 25,000 students have received an AiC Award.

CSTA Philly and CSTA Longwood are hosting a micro:bit event at Westtown School on May 6, 2023!
 

Ms. Annie Kelly, the current CSTA Philly President, was honored by CSTA and Infosys in July by receiving the runner-up recognition for the Teaching Excellence Award! She was also honored in December by Teach for America and the Cognizant Foundation as the runner-up for their Cognizant Innovation in Computer Science Education Award. 

Beginning in 1980, the Logo Summer Institute was an annual immersion in creative computing held in locations across the USA and abroad. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was transformed into an online event for three years from 2020 through 2022. For 2023 we're reviving the in-person format, while preserving the advantages of the online approach. It will be the best of both worlds - two workshops a week apart. You may sign up for the online workshop, the in-person immersion, or both.

The PA-CSTA virtual unconference will engage participants in guided discussion on K-12 computer science (CS) education in Pennsylvania. PaTTAN CS consultants and leaders of Pennsylvania chapters of the Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA) will facilitate breakout discussions around topics related to building foundational knowledge and skills in CS, recruiting students to CS, teaching CS with evidence-based practices, and building community partnerships to support CS education.

CS4Philly is offering two opportunities for coding activities recommended for students in grades 6-12 (Code Quilt) and 9-12 (Pixel Pandemonium). Both activities are asynchronous, so teachers and students can participate on their own schedules. Registrants will receive links to access the activities and teacher guides and resources for a successful lesson.

This two-year opportunity offers a competitive salary, medical benefits, and travel and relocation expense reimbursement. For the 2023 fellowship, applicants must complete a master's or other advanced degree between August 1, 2021 and July 23, 2023 to be eligible. FAQ available at this link.

We are pleased to announce a monthly series of CS Teacher Professional Development for Secondary Teachers (grades 7-12) with the support of Jumpstart Philly CS4All, funded by an NSF grant. January through June, we will host a Saturday PD Event focused on a CS topic that is linked to PA CS Standards and the Praxis CS Teacher Certification Exam.
