Our friends at the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit are hosting cyber.org for a workshop in cybersecurity for middle and high school teachers! The middle school workshop is 12/12 and the high school workshop is 12/13 (both 9am-3pm). These will take place at the MCIU headquarters in Norristown PA. |
Free Tech Training for High SchoolersLaunchpad Philly is a free tech training program available for all 11th and 12th graders city-wide. Their mission is to connect high schoolers to high paying careers in the tech industry. The program is 2.5 years, paid, and equips students with coding skills, work-ready soft skills, industry certifications, and up to 30 college credits. More info is attached. Youth Engineering Solutions Teacher Educator InstituteOut-of-school time leaders will engage in the Museum of Science, Boston’s Youth Engineering Solutions Out-of-School engineering curriculum as they prepare to lead professional learning sessions for out-of-school educators. MOS staff will lead educators in a hands-on experience with one curriculum unit. Throughout, participants will pause to reflect on their experience from an educator and student perspective. We will provide participants with free access to the digital resources (including the curricular materials, slides, and handouts), and a materials kit for one unit, and support them as they host their own workshops. NCWIT's Aspirations in Computing AwardThe NCWIT Aspirations in Computing (AiC) High School Award honors 9th-12th grade women, genderqueer, and non-binary students for their computing-related achievements and interests, and encourages them to pursue their passions. Award recipients are selected based on their aptitude and aspirations in technology and computing, as demonstrated by their computing experience, computing-related activities, leadership experience, tenacity in the face of barriers to access, and future plans. Since 2007, more than 25,000 students have received an AiC Award.

CSTA Philly President Receives Two Runner Up Awards in 2022!Ms. Annie Kelly, the current CSTA Philly President, was honored by CSTA and Infosys in July by receiving the runner-up recognition for the Teaching Excellence Award! She was also honored in December by Teach for America and the Cognizant Foundation as the runner-up for their Cognizant Innovation in Computer Science Education Award.

Logo Summer InstituteBeginning in 1980, the Logo Summer Institute was an annual immersion in creative computing held in locations across the USA and abroad. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, it was transformed into an online event for three years from 2020 through 2022. For 2023 we're reviving the in-person format, while preserving the advantages of the online approach. It will be the best of both worlds - two workshops a week apart. You may sign up for the online workshop, the in-person immersion, or both.

2021 GenCyber Teacher Camps Professional DevelopmentThe GenCyber Teacher Camps, offered by Lehigh Carbon Community College, are week-long summer camps for grade-school teachers of K-6 (July 12-16) and 7-12 (June 21-25). The 2021 sessions will be held virtually. The goal of the GenCyber program is to increase interest in cybersecurity careers and diversity in the cybersecurity workforce, help students understand correct and safe online behavior, and improve teaching methods for delivering cybersecurity content in K-12 curricula. |
